Cutting the frills, not the thrills

“Make room for things that matter by removing everything that doesn’t” (Brian Gardner)
I’ve never been drawn to ruffles or lace. If given the choice between frilly and functional, I’ll choose functional every time. I prefer clean lines, clear writing, and relationships built on honesty and simplicity.
Which brings me to today’s topic: simplifying. Simplifying is not about settling for less. It is about removing excess so there is more room for what truly matters. It means cutting away distractions and unnecessary extras so the moments that bring meaning and joy can stand out more clearly.
The goal is not to strip life of beauty or healthy pleasure. Nor is it to shrink your dreams or ambitions. Instead, it is to let go of the extras that pull your attention away from what genuinely moves you forward.
When we simplify, we begin to notice the richness already present in everyday life instead of always chasing more. Our attention returns to life’s real blessings: the love of family and friends, food on the table, and a roof over our heads.
At its core, simplifying is not about deprivation. It is about clearing away the unnecessary so we can better appreciate life’s simple joys.
