Confronting Our Insecurities

But Moses said to the LORD, “Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue.”

Exodus 4:10 (ESV)

Moses was full of excuses: he wasn’t qualified, he wasn’t eloquent, he wasn’t gifted of speech or tongue. I find it interesting that Stephen refers to Moses as “proficient in speech and action” (Acts 7:22-NASB). So was he just feeling insecure? Possibly.

There have been times when I’ve felt underqualified, inadequate, and even unworthy of the calling God has placed on my life. Surely there was someone else far better equipped and qualified to take on the responsibility. And that’s precisely where the enemy wants me – afraid, worried, insecure.

Truth is, I am unqualified to do the job – if I am doing it in my own strength. Then again, the opposite holds true. God equips and empowers those He commissions. There is nothing I lack under His anointing.

Hebrews 13:21 promises, “May the God of peace…equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ…” 2 Peter 1:3 says, “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness…” (italics added for emphasis).

Has God called you to step forward into a position, yet you feel insecure about it? He doesn’t expect perfection; He expects obedience. God didn’t ask Moses to prepare a PowerPoint with a three-step plan of action. He asked him to step up. He even provided him with the words to say. God will do the same for you.

One, plus God, is more than enough to tackle the job.

Thought: When insecurities start to make you doubt, flip it around and say, ‘God, I may doubt myself. But I will not doubt you. So, I will let Your perfection override my feelings of imperfection and do what You instruct me to do – Lysa Terkeurst, Embraced.
