Then the LORD said to Elijah, “Go to the east and hide by Kerith Brook… So Elijah did as the LORD told him and camped beside Kerith Brook, east of the Jordan. The ravens brought him bread and meat each morning and evening, and he drank from the brook. 1 Kings 17:2-7 (NLT)
Seated on the shores of Kireth Brook, I ponder my new encampment. What am I doing here? Like a rollercoaster ride, I’ve peaked only to find myself spiraling downward. Down, down, down, to the ravine where Kireth Brook flows into the Jordan.
But God – He’s brought me here for a reason.
Perhaps to remove me from all the distractions and voices vying for my attention so I can hear His voice more clearly.
To feed me, not physically, but spiritually and emotionally.
To learn reliance and trust.
To set aside my man-made aspirations and replace them with His higher purpose.
To remind me that His thoughts are not my thoughts, that His ways are far beyond anything I could ever imagine (Isaiah 55:8-9).
To prepare me for the new mission ahead.
