But the people grew impatient with the long journey, and they began to speak against God and Moses. Numbers 21:4-5 (NLT)
What happens when you’re stuck in a rut?
When every day resembles the previous one?
When variety or spontaneity are merely words in the dictionary?
You grow weary.
You lose sight of the destination and concentrate instead on the dreariness of life.
The Israelites had reached that point.
Their progress was agonizingly slow.
Every morning, they woke to the same food, the same scenery, the same plodding, the same longing for their tiresome journey to end.
And as they trudged, seeds of discontent took root and slowly blossomed into resentment against Moses, against God.
We succumb to discouragement when we fail to see any progress: when every day is similar to the previous one.
Disappointment sets in, along with frustration and weariness.
We focus on the plodding instead of God’s promises.
Yet God has promised a reward to those who stay the course and refuse to give up.
He sees the bigger picture, and He is hard at work, even in the midst of life’s deserts.
Center your sights on Jesus rather than on the journey.
Keep your gaze focused on Him and the Promised Land waiting up ahead.
To see His face and hear Him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant will make all the trudging worthwhile!
