When I Need Peace

Guest post by author C.A. Simonson

Philippians 4:7 -“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

“In the last days, men’s hearts will fail them for fear.” (Luke 21:26). Wars, earthquakes, famine, and viruses will happen as promised. (Luke 21:10, 11) Not knowing what’s ahead can make your heart melt. Learning to calm our hearts is essential—but how?

During the French War, an artist stood at his canvas while outside his window, bombs exploded. When soldiers burst in, they found the man peacefully painting as if oblivious to the chaos.

“How can you paint while the war rages? Your house is demolished, yet you haven’t missed a stroke.”

He replied, “If this is my last day on earth, I must finish what I’ve started. My heart is at peace. I know where I’m going. I’ve nothing to fear.”

Fear need not overwhelm. God has promised to keep us in perfect peace when we keep our eyes fixed on His promises and believe His truth. (Isaiah 26:3) Talk to the Lord daily. Commit your life to Him and seek His Word for daily instruction. Ask the Holy Spirit for guidance and favor.

God may not remove every problem. Outward evidence of peace may look distant. But, that inner ‘knowing’ in the core of your heart will settle you. The ultimate trust you have placed in your Father will guard your heart, and your soul will experience a peace that is beyond human understanding. (Philippians 4:7)

“Don’t worry about tomorrow…today has enough trouble of its own.” (Matthew 6:34)
