“I trust in You, O Lord; you are my God…my times are in your hand.” (Psalm 31:14, 15)
As darkness invaded the land in the middle of the day, life looked grim to the eleven men. Their hopes were gone. They believed their leader would guide them to victory over the government and bring them honor, fame, and riches. Now, Jesus was dead. Illegally tried and convicted, His life had been snuffed out. The One Who promised freedom from tyranny had been killed by the mob. For his followers, life was at its darkest hour. Defeated and disillusioned, the disciples ran, hid, and considered abandoning their beliefs.
Then came Sunday.
Easter morning dawned bright and clear with a message from two excited women who visited an empty tomb. “He has risen!” were their jubilant cries. In an instant, everything changed. (Matthew 28:6)
Dark times are inevitable: loneliness, disease, death, divorce, and more threatens destruction. Doubt or fear of the future brings stress and pain, resulting in despair, which grips life in a stranglehold. Sometimes – the darkest moments come right before a breakthrough.
Thank God, He knows all our tomorrows. Trust His wisdom. Believe that new life will emerge from your darkest hour. Trust. Your Sunday is coming.
A devotion from God Help Me, an interactive devotional journal.
PRAYER: Lord, I need You, especially in my darkest hours. Help me as I work through this season. Strengthen my faith. AMEN.
