Psalm 69:14 -“Rescue me from the mire and do not let me sink; deliver me from my foes and out of the deep waters.”
The boys slid onto the frozen lake, unaware that the fifty-degree weather had weakened the ice. Without a care, they joked while tossing a football, inching farther and farther from shore. They didn’t know the danger hiding beneath. When they heard the ice crack – it was too late.
A man happened to see the boys crash through the ice and called for help. Two of them made it out safely. But for John, things turned ominous. Miraculously, he was found under the ice, but there had been no heartbeat for sixty minutes. The doctors gave no hope – but God is a miracle worker. Today John thrives as a healthy young man who came back from an icy grave.1

Often, we stand on thin ice, too. Unknown dangers wait to trap us under a deluge of hurt. Without care in the world, we fail to realize that life’s deceptions could kill us if we’re unaware of our surroundings. Once we crash, it seems too late to be saved. We’ve sunk too far underwater or gone beyond rescue. The Psalmist David felt that pain: “I have drifted into deep waters, where the flood engulfs me. I am weary from my crying; my throat is parched. My eyes fail, looking for my God.” (Psalm 69:2-3 – BSB)
Maybe you think no one knows your plight; no one cares – but God knows, and He cares. Help is on the way. He will throw you a lifeline. All you need to do is grab on.
