Welcome!

What’s in Your Wardrobe?

Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Colossians 3:12 (NLT)

In the book of Colossians, Paul urges believers to take into consideration how they clothe themselves each day. He’s not speaking of physical clothing but spiritual clothing. I must confess, I really don’t give a second thought as to what my spiritual body is wearing at seven a.m. I’m lucky just to make it out the door in time to drive the boys to school.

Yet I ought to care about my spiritual clothing because God has clothing He’s set out for me; it might not be my first choice, but it will determine what sort of day I have. Putting on anger, malice, jealousy, and so forth will ruin my day. When, on the other hand, I clothe myself in what God has picked out for me – compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline, serenity, forgiveness, and love – then I will be pleasing in the LORD’s sight; and that will inevitably affect the outcome of my day. It day might not be all hunky-dory, but it will undoubtedly turn out a lot better than if I’m wearing negative and destructive attitudes.

Let me ask you something rather personal; what’s in your spiritual wardrobe? Are there clothes that shouldn’t even be in there? Are there outfits that are inappropriate for a child of God? Are there garments that just don’t suit you? Today, take some time to evaluate what you are wearing. But above all, wear love. As The Message translates verse 14, “Love is your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it.”
