“But she came and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, help me.” Matthew 15:25 (ESV)
She was a Canaanite, not one of the ‘lost sheep of the house of Israel.’ She was also desperate. She was a mother aching for her daughter’s healing, a parent willing to do anything to find the One who could provide relief from her child’s oppression. When Jesus challenged her, she pressed Him and pursued Him unrelentingly.
Vulnerable faith—that’s how I would describe the Canaanite woman’s plea for her daughter’s healing. It is a faith willing to risk rejection for the sake of another, a faith willing to seek out, step out, and speak out, a faith that stretches the boundaries of one’s comfort zone just to grab ahold of some small measure of the abundance the Bread of Life has to offer.
Today, step out of your comfort zone. Be willing to risk all for the sake of another. Shed your fears, your inhibitions, your what-will-others-think mentality. Someone in your family, your neighborhood, your circle of friends, is struggling and needs you to share with them what our Jesus can do.
