The Voice of Faith

The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear?

The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?

Psalm 27:1 (NIV)

There are two voices that constantly vie for our attention; the voice of faith and the voice of fear. The voice of fear is often loudest, like a petulant child clamoring for attention. The voice of faith, on the other hand, is quieter, a gentle whisper from the Spirit that urges us to pursue what we know of God rather than what we feel at any given time.

Psalm 27 states, “The Lord is my light and salvation… the stronghold of my life.” The moment we surrender our lives to God, we are under His protection. Whosoever rises up against us faces poor odds because we’ve already won through Christ’s work on the cross. Whatever stands in our way is going to have to cede because we are more-than-conquerors.

Whatever we face, whomever we face, becomes irrelevant in the light of God’s power; neither death, demons, fears, powers of darkness, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God. We are secure in our Father’s loving arms.

Fear? Jesus died for that. Worry? He died for that too. Trepidation? He died for that as well. Although negative emotions may arise, we have a choice; rehash all the ‘what ifs’ or change channels in our mind and focus on God’s promises.

The question I pose today is simple; which voice will you listen to? The voice of fear or the voice of faith? Which voice will win out in the end? I pray you will always listen to the voice of faith.

Thought: “Faith does not eliminate questions. But faith knows where to take them.” – Elisabeth Elliot
