The Good in the Bad

You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people. Genesis 50:20 (NLT)

To all appearances, Joseph’s life was a wreck. Once the favorite child of a wealthy father, Joseph went from son to slave, from pampered to prisoner. His life spiraled downwards faster than the stock market during a recession. His hopes were shattered, his dreams destroyed.

Yet in God’s hands, bad is transformed into good. That’s the thing about God; oftentimes, He places mountains in our path to teach us grit, endurance, and determination. Not because He’s picking on us but because He’s preparing us for His purpose—a purpose that far exceeds our greatest aspiration.

That’s exactly what He was doing in Joseph’s life. Psalm 105:19 tells us, “Until the time came to fulfill his dreams, the Lord tested Joseph’s character.” Why would God test him? To build him into a discerning leader who would save the lives of thousands.

Whatever your struggle, God is not blind to it. On the contrary, He uses it to shape your character and align you with His purpose: building the Kingdom of God.
