Delicately floating down from the heavens above;

Each tiny flake sent from the Creator with love.

Perfectly shaped & designed – making it one of a kind.

How can it be that no two are alike?

Viewed up close – what a beautiful sight.

*

Tiny little insignificant flakes,

Falling silently upon the icy lake.

Before you know it, a blanket of shimmering white.

Oh, what a beautiful sight.

*

Sometimes gently guided by the breeze;

Other times pushed along without ease;

And to the point of blizzard force,

Ofttimes its destination as though off course.

*

Steadily descending to the ground now;

A depth that may soon require a snowplow!

These little fluffs of white seem so innocent;

And yet so definite is their descent.

*

The drifts are ever growing . . .

When will it ever stop snowing?

*

I can’t believe my eyes

As it piles up so very high.

*

Little folks & big ones, too, eagerly await this winter wonderland.

With exuberant shouts of glee, it becomes an ideal place to ski.

Scarves & boots – mittens & hats,

Can you imagine wearing all that?

All dressed in their winter garb now.

This day the delight of every guy & gal.

*

With no further time to waste,

They with determination make haste.

Scurrying to build a jolly snowman outside.

Then down a nearby slope for a joyous sled ride.

The day wouldn’t be complete,

Without a snowball fight — and frost-bitten feet.

*

It’s with purpose & meaning, that God designed each tiny flake.

Combined they can bring such joy & times to treasure.

When oft times in our later seasons of life,

We reminisce these tiny simple pleasures.

*

And for you skeptics, let me say,

There may come that precious day . . .

 When you, too, will lovingly play with those you love,

In the gently falling snow from above.

Much of Charlene’s career experience was in office administration and primarily in the field of social services. Her most rewarding time though was when she served at Saddleback Church under Pastor Rick Warren and the Student Ministry staff.

She and her husband of nearly 60 years are the parents of four grown children and six grandchildren. After retiring, Charlene pursued her writing interests. She also enjoys drawing and sometimes expresses herself by illustrating some of her writings. Her published works include a divinely inspired book of poems and essays, much of which reflect on God’s creation and His love. The “MO State Poetry Society” also has printed one of her poems in their publication. Gospel Publishing has used several of her devotionals for their adult ministry. And more recently, Focus on the Family chose a story she submitted on Families in Ministry.

Over the past 14 years, she has had the privilege of leading a ladies’ Life Group at her church, in Springfield, MO, into a deeper spiritual walk with the heavenly Father.
