And they ate and were satisfied. And they took up the broken pieces left over, seven baskets full. Mark 8:8 ESV
I never cease to be amazed at God’s lavish provision. He can take whatever we have, be it ever so small, and multiply it to His glory. Mark reminds us of this in the 8th chapter. A vast crowd had followed Jesus to a remote place. Many stayed for three days, and some had traveled there from far away. So Jesus instructed the disciples to feed the crowd by distributing seven loaves of bread and a few small fish.
What struck me as I read this passage again is the word “satisfied.” They ate and were satisfied. No one went home hungry, no one was sent away with bellies half-full, and everyone had enough to eat to feel satisfied.
In the same way, God satisfies the heart that hungers after God. Matthew 5:6 states, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”
Let me ask you a question: Have you settled for just enough? Are you content to just get by, living a life that is only half-full? Jesus longs to offer you so much more. He wants to fill you until your soul is satisfied—not with bread but with Himself.
He is truly all we need.
Prayer: Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days (Psalm 90:14). You are the only One who can fill our hunger. You are the only One who can quench our thirst. Only you can truly satisfy. Amen.
