For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders.
And he will be called; Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6 (NLT)
Peace, whether political, diplomatic, social, emotional, or spiritual, can be as tenuous as the clouds. Not one day goes by without some skirmish. From the moment Adam and Eve rebelled against God, mankind has suffered the consequences of its sin: a world riddled with conflict. Peace remains tenuous, at least in terms of peace with a lower-case p.
Peace – biblical peace – is not the absence of problems. Peace is not some sentiment we can dredge up from within or some location we can flee to when life gets bumpy. Peace is a person; Jesus-Christ Himself.
Many believed the Messiah would liberate the Jews from Roman oppression. They viewed him as one who would finally restore peace and reestablish their nation. But Jesus came to fulfill a far greater plan: He came to destroy sin, hatred, and discord, to tear down the walls of separation between man and God and restore fellowship with Him. Jesus is the Prince of Peace, the One who rules over the universe and the only One powerful enough to defeat the prince of darkness.
“How can I find this peace?” you ask. How can I stop worrying about everything going on in the world and in my personal life? Go to the source, Jesus Himself. Peace within and peace with others always begin in peace with God. “He Himself (Jesus) is our peace” Ephesians 2:14.
Thought: “A great many people are trying to make peace, but that has already been done. God has not left it for us to do; all we have to do is to enter into it.” – Dwight L. Moody
