Prince of Peace

And He will be called…. Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

Peace, whether political, diplomatic, social, emotional, or spiritual, can be as tenuous as the clouds. Not one day goes by without some skirmish. From the moment Adam and Eve rebelled against God, man has suffered the consequences of their sin; a world riddled with conflict. There is no peace, at least in terms of peace with a lower-case p.

But true peace is not the absence of problems. Peace is not some sentiment we dredge up from within, nor is it a location we can flee to when life gets bumpy. Peace is a person: Jesus Christ Himself. Paul states in Ephesians 2:14, “He (Jesus) Himself is our peace.”

Many believed the Messiah would liberate the Jews from the oppression of the Roman government. They saw Him as the one who would finally restore peace and reestablish their nation. But Jesus came to fulfill a far greater enemy: He came to destroy sin, hatred, and discord, to tear down the walls of separation between man and God, and restore fellowship with Him. Jesus is the Prince of Peace, the One who rules over the universe, and the only One powerful enough to defeat the prince of darkness.
