Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” Matthew 5:9 ESV
Peacemakers are individuals who strive to find common ground between entities, persons, or nations, guiding them toward reconciliation. They have vision and understanding. Typically, they are merciful, compassionate, and pure in heart. Their primary focus is reestablishing communication and interaction between the two parties.
Jesus is our peacemaker. When He died, the veil that separated us from God’s holy presence was torn in two (Matthew 27:51), bringing reconciliation between God and man through the blood of Christ.
Let me clarify that we do not become sons and daughters of God through our efforts at peacemaking. Rather, we are called to be peacemakers because we are a part of God’s family. Our identity determines our conduct. Our Father’s vision becomes our vision. His mission to establish peace between sinful man and a holy God becomes our mission.
Blessed are the peacemakers… True, biblical peace finds its source and meaning not in self but in Christ. He is our peace.
Prayer: Lord, make me a vessel of peace. Use me to lead others to the cross, for it is only when we are reconciled with You that we can find true, lasting peace. Amen.
Thought: “The Christian needs to walk in peace, so no matter what happens, they will be able to bear witness to a watching world.” – Henry Blackaby
