Welcome!

Mount Moriah

“Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.” Genesis 22:12

This passage begins, “Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!”

“Here I am,” he replied.

Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”

Mount Moriah – the mount where Abraham laid his son on the altar in obedience to God’s command. The place where man’s need encountered God’s grace.

Mount Moriah – the place where our greatest need comes face to face with God’s greatest gift. The angel’s proclamation to Abraham, “Now I know that you fear God because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son,” becomes our song of freedom: “You have not withheld from me your Son, your only Son.”

Grace upon grace. The underserving rescued from death through God’s Son, Jesus Christ, the sacrificial lamb who died in our place. Long before we even knew we’d need a Savior, God provided – Mount Moriah – the place where we find grace and meet Jesus face to face.

Prayer: Thank you, Father, for providing the sacrificial lamb. You did not withhold your only Son but sent Him to die in my place – grace unmerited yet fully offered. Amen.

Thought: “Grace means undeserved kindness. It is the gift of God to man the moment he sees he is unworthy of God’s favor.” – Dwight L. Moody
