Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
Do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do,
And he will show you which path to take.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)
We had recently moved to the area when my husband and I decided to take our three little boys to the zoo. Our oldest was four years old, the twins had just turned two. We wanted to surprise the boys, so instead of spilling the beans, Len and I just packed them into the car and told them we were going somewhere fun.
As we pulled into the parking lot the boys’ eyes grew wide with excitement; not because of the zoo, but because they’d spotted the adjoining playground. As soon as they were unbuckled, the boys poured out of the car and ran straight for the slide. My husband and I looked at each other and laughed. It took some coaxing and a half-hour or so of fun at the playground to finally entice the boys away from the swings and the slide in exchange for all the thrills the zoo had to offer.
So many times, my short-sightedness robs me of God’s greater blessings. I glimpse a small patch of grass and stubbornly attempt to graze there while He sees lush meadows and quiet streams. I look one step ahead while He sees eternity.
Thankfully, God is patient and He gently redirects my course to greener pastures. It’s not until I seek His will and let Him lead that I discover God’s dreams for me are far greater than my own.
