They couldn’t move forward. They couldn’t go back. They were trapped. At least that’s what they believed.
Though they’d left Egypt victorious, the Israelites quickly assumed themselves defeated; with the Red Sea before them, Pharaoh and his army behind them, and no way out, the people began to panic. Their eyes were on Pharaoh’s approaching army rather than on God’s pillar of fire protecting them.
How quickly I’m lured into the same trap when the bloodhounds of adversity are hot on my heels. With troubles around me and insurmountable problems before me, I am tempted to panic rather than pray. My focus is more on the rescue than the Rescuer.
Yet God urges us to be still, to trust Him, even when it seems we’re at an impasse. For it’s in those moments when we’ve nothing to offer, no one to rely on, and no way out that our faith is tested. When we step aside, and allow God to be God, we discover the battle was not ours in the first place – it was His all along.
Thought: “Faith is believing before what will only make sense after.” – Steven Furtick
