In the Grip of Grace

I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. John 10:28

In Mark, chapter 5, we read the story of a man with an evil spirit. A legion of demons (verse 9) held such a fierce grip on him that no one could bind him, not even with a chain. It is important to notice that even though the demons possessed such power, they were rendered powerless in Jesus’ presence. They recognized His authority over them.  

Ultimately, Jesus cast the demons out of the man and sent them into a herd of pigs. The man was instantly healed and ‘In his right mind.’ He went away and began telling anyone and everyone what Jesus had done for him.

If you are a child of God, you need never fear the devil’s or his minions’ power. He will use external forces to discourage you, but he cannot dwell within you. The Holy Spirit inhabits you; there’s no room for anyone else. Demons cannot cohabitate with God’s Spirit. You and I, as children of God, are in the grip of the highest authority in the universe – the grip of the Almighty God – and His grip is always far stronger than anything or anyone.

Here are a few Scriptures to memorize for those times when you’re under spiritual attack:

“For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, ‘Fear not, I am the one who helps you” (Isaiah 41:13).

“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us . . . For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor power, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:31-39).

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand” (John 10:27-28).

No matter what you face today, remember you are in His grip and He will never ever let you go.
