“Be careful to obey all these words that I command you, that it may go well with you and with your children after you forever, when you do what is good and right in the sight of the Lord your God.” Deuteronomy 12:28 (ESV).
If you’ve ever been to a tourist attraction, a park, a nature preserve, or an observation deck, you’ve probably noticed the coin-operated telescopes. These metallic viewers can swivel vertically and horizontally to allow for a range of views and permit visitors to see farther and clearer than they could with the naked eye.
God has no need for such devices. If He can see the sparrow, if He counts the very hairs on our heads, and He knows our every thought, there is nothing we can hide from Him. Which makes me wonder – what does God see in me?
“Be careful to obey … do what is good and right in the sight of the Lord your God.” My friends, this is both a promise and a word of caution. There is nowhere we can flee from God’s presence. There is nothing we can hide from Him.
The good news in all of this is that when we falter, He is there to catch us. When we sin, we have an advocate in heaven, Jesus Christ. Don’t conceal your sin – confess it. Don’t hide your fear – run to God. Don’t suppress your worries or cares – cast them on Him.
Prayer: Lord, take a deep, hard look at my life. Search my heart, know my thoughts, and draw my attention to whatever isn’t good or right in your sight. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
