He opened the heavens and came down.
Psalm 18:9 (ESV)
While many religions stress the need for man to seek God, striving to earn His favor and grace, God’s Word showcases a loving Savior who came down to our world to seek us out wherever we may be, in order to bestow on us His favor and grace.
Advent serves as a reminder that God opened the heavens, opened His heart, opened His arms, to embrace the human race and reconcile man with God. He came down, not amid fanfare but in humility. He came down, not to wage war against the nations but to save the nations. He came down – not of His own will, but to accomplish the will of His Father – to carry our burdens, our load, and our sins upon His back.
“All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me but raise it up on the last day.” John 6:37-39 (ESV – italics mine).
Jesus, the greatest hope for humanity, entering our world in the quiet of a Bethlehem night and laid in a manger because He loved us too much to let us perish.
Thought: “I am come to find you wherever you may be. I will look for you till the eyes of My pity see you. I will follow you till the hands of My mercy reach you, and I will still hold you . . . to My heart.” Charles Spurgeon
