Whoever covers an offense seeks love, but he who repeats a matter separates close friends. Proverbs 17:9 ESV
It is tempting, when someone wrongs you, to broadcast the matter: “Do you know what so-and-so did?”
Yet God’s word urges us, not only to shush our mouths, but to extend forgiveness to the person who has wronged us. He invites us to forgo our natural response and choose, instead, a path of love and healing.
The next time someone offends you, choose to be the bigger person. Share it with God alone. No good ever comes from gossip. Ever. It won’t be easy, but keep in mind that friendships are built on the bonding of two imperfect people.
I leave you with this thought from Tim Keller: “A Christian is responsible to begin the process of reconciliation, regardless of how the alienation began.”
