“Teacher (Master), do you not care that we are perishing?” Mark 4:38 NKJV
“Don’t you care?”
How often is that the very cry of my heart? Although I know that God cares about my life and circumstances, my heart doesn’t necessarily align with this understanding. When my world is storm-tossed and the waves seem to overwhelm this little vessel, my emotions sometimes overcome my intellect. And that’s precisely where the enemy wants me: in a place of doubt and uncertainty.
Psalm 46:10 is my go-to verse in times like these: “Be still and know that I am God.”
Be still – stop fretting, stop worrying, stop staring at the storm
And know – appropriate all the promises, the knowledge you have of my character
That I am God – I am still on the throne and I am still in control.
Does God care about my storm? Absolutely. Does His heart hurt when I hurt? You can be sure of it. Does He worry about the storm? Not one bit. Because He is in the midst and He knows the outcome. He cares about our pain, our troubles, our sorrows, but He doesn’t stay awake at night fretting about them – because they are all under His control.
Prayer: Lord, how often I question my circumstances. Why the pain, why the hurt? But in every circumstance, whether good or bad, I trust that you are with me, in the midst, and you have allowed this storm for a reason. Though I don’t understand the purpose, I trust your plan. Amen.
Thought: “The one thing that keeps us from the possibility of worrying is bringing God in as the greatest factor in all our calculations.” – Oswald Chambers
