To everything, there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1 NKJ
This morning, I sat on my porch swing and took in the beauty of Autumn. Colorful leaves swirled to the ground, reminding me of a lesson the Lord taught me years ago.
When my last child left home, my job as Mom in Charge was demoted to Mom Advisor. It was as if my purpose was finished, making me feel like a boat lost at sea. I’d spent years guiding, nurturing, encouraging, and teaching my five children. What now?
One afternoon, while working outside, a neighbor child ran through my yard, grabbed a low branch of my maple tree, and stripped the leaves off it in one fell swoop. The leaves fluttered to the ground in a pile. The Lord chose this small act to teach me an object lesson. Leaves are on the tree to feed it. However, even though the leaves were torn from the tree, they could still fulfill their purpose, but in a different way by composting back into the soil.
That is when I began to write. I’m still fulfilling my purpose, only in a different way. What about you? If you are in a season where you feel your purpose has been thwarted, seek the Lord and let Him show you another way…His way.
