Coping with Change

“I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for there I will make you into a great nation. I myself will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also bring you up again, and Joseph’s hand shall close your eyes.” Genesis 46:3-4

As Jacob prepares to leave Canaan, the land God promised to his father Isaac and his grandfather Abraham, God came to him at night and spoke to him in a vision. “In an act of covenant love, God came to Jacob and reminded him that his hope and security had never been in his situation or location. God had been Jacob’s security all along, no matter where he has been. God reminded Jacob of who he was and what he had been given as a child of God” (Paul Tripp, Everyday Gospel: A Daily Devotional Connecting Scripture to All of Life).

Are you entering a season of change? Does the prospect of transition hold more uncertainty than anticipation? You are not alone, my friend. The God who walked with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob through life’s peaks and troughs is the same God who has promised never to leave you or forsake you (Hebrews 13:5). No matter where you go, no matter what turbulence you may encounter, God will never – NEVER – leave you to go it alone.

Psalm 73:23 states, “I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory” (NIV). I love that this verse states God is the one who holds my hand rather than the other way around because, when I stumble, I might let go but He will never lose his grip on me.

Prayer: Lord, today I surrender my future into your hands. You have promised good to those who walk with you. Thank you that you will go with me wherever I go and will never lose your grip on my hand and when this life is over I have the assurance that you will take me into glory to live with you forever. Amen.

Thought: “Because God is with you all the time, no place is any closer to God than the place where you are right now.”Rick Warren
