Casting . . . Not As Easy as it Sounds

Cast your burden on the Lord, and He will sustain you; He will never permit the righteous to be moved. Psalm 55:22 ESV

Casting …

Not as easy as it sounds.

How often you and I cling to our struggles, our problems, our grief. Because casting doesn’t come naturally.

Perhaps it’s due to a faulty vision of God

If my God is too small, then He is not sufficient for my problems

If my God is too big, then He doesn’t have time to worry about my struggles

If my God is indifferent, then He cannot relate or share my grief

But . . .

If my God is all-powerful, then my burden is but a pebble to Him

If my God is all-knowing, then my struggle is ever before Him

If my God is loving and compassionate, then He cares enough about my tears to collect them (Psalm 56:8)

Perhaps it’s time to stop trying to do God’s job and allow Him to do what He has promised He will do.

Truth is, I cannot cling to my worries and cling to God at the same time. Either I hold onto my struggles and ignore God’s outstretched hands or I hand them over to God so I’m free to cling to Him.

Prayer: On you I cast today’s burdens, knowing that You are not too busy to handle my little problems or insufficient to deal with my greatest calamities. Turn my test into a powerful testimony of how your love and power transformed my life. Amen.

Thought: Perhaps our most difficult obstacle to overcome is to believe the God of the universe cares about us and our problems.
