Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage;
do not be afraid, nor be dismayed,
for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
Joshua 1:9 (NKJV)
Joshua had some big shoes to fill. Not only had Moses died, but he’d just been volunteered by God to lead a people numbering in the tens of thousands into battle against a very fierce opponent.
In the face of this daunting task, God pulls Joshua aside and gives him a pep talk. He goes right to the point; “Moses, my servant is dead. Therefore, the time has come for you to lead these people….” A statement. A task. No room for discussion. God has given him an assignment, and Joshua steps up to the plate.
Right on the heels of this charge, God spills out promise upon promise; His protection, His guidance, His provision, His power, just to name a few. God could have sent Joshua out to conquer the land of Canaan with just a wink and a smile. “Good luck with your mission!” But God’s assignments are always accompanied by a promise. Or two. Or more than one can count.
Feel like God’s given you a task that’s just too daunting? Do you wonder if God has asked you to handle more than you can bear? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid nor be dismayed. Not only is the LORD with you as He was with Joshua, but He will equip you with every good promise so that you may fulfill the task He has set before you.
Start a journal. For every problem, write three corresponding promises from God’s Word. Memorize them, claim them, and post them where you will see them several times a day. In Christ, you are a victor!
