Be the Blessing

“For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you – that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine. Romans 1:11-12 ESV

There are those who spread joy wherever they go. These are the people I want to hang around with, don’t you? I’m not talking about those personalities who are boisterous and expect to be the center of attention when they walk into a room. I’m referring to those individuals who uplift others with their ready smile, whose motives are unselfish and whose focus is on others, not for what they can receive but for what they can impart.

I have to wonder, what kind of influence do I have on others? Am I that person who brings a smile to people’s faces or do I suck the energy out of the room when I walk in? Do I add value to their day? Do I radiate love? Am I intentional in being a blessing wherever I go?

We cannot control how people will respond to us, but we can choose to make a difference in their day. Perhaps a word of appreciation to the woman cleaning the public restrooms at the store. Or maybe a simple “I’m thinking of you today” text message to a friend or acquaintance who is struggling. It doesn’t take much to be the blessing – just a little love and an indication that you care can go a long way.

Prayer: Lord, make me an instrument of blessing today. Show me those hearts that are hurting. Use me to sow hope where there is despair, love where there is sadness, light where there is darkness, peace where there is turmoil. May I be the difference, the blessing, in someone’s day. Amen.

Thought: One of my highest privileges is when I know I am being used by God to help others – Lori Hogan
