Welcome!

Adjusting my To-Do List

“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8

I recently noticed a book that got me thinking: What If God Wrote Your To-Do List? 52 Ways to Make the Most of Every Day, by Jay K. Payleitner. At first I was intrigued by the title, then began to ponder and reflect on it. If God were to draw up my daily to-do list, what would it look like?

“Get ready for work” might read, “Clothe me with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience along with today’s attire” (Colossians 3:12).

“Go to the grocery store,” might read, “Open my eyes, Lord, to see someone who needs to be uplifted and encouraged as I shop.”

The prophet Micah’s to-do list offers us a few fundamental ‘requirements’ that should be on our daily to-do list: to act justly, to love mercy, to walk humbly with God. What God requires of us is not about changing the content of our day as much as inviting God into the mundane. It’s about asking God to influence the way we think and act, to open our spiritual eyes as we set about our work, and to perceive each encounter through His eyes. It’s recognizing that even those ‘interruptions’ just might be a divine appointment.

Prayer: Lord, take control of today. Transform even my most mundane tasks into opportunities for prayer, service, and furthering the Kingdom of God. In your name I pray, Amen.

Thought: “If God doesn’t rule your mundane, then he doesn’t rule you. Because that’s where you live.” Paul Tripp
